Although it's been almost 2 years without international arrival, yet Malaysia has been chosen as the best Muslim-friendly holiday destination according to the MasterCard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2021.
Although the pandemic had destroyed the tourism sector, the GMTI 2021 report suggested that some places were ready to be activated in readiness of borders reopening.
"Malaysia remained the top-ranked destination in the GMTI 2021 as it had been since the launch of the index in 2015," Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC)
Malaysia's continuous and steadfast commitment to fostering Muslim-friendly tourism, a model that is becoming increasingly important in the global market, according to Tourism Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
"Halal in travel is an essential for Muslim travellers and is part and parcel of Islamic Tourism. Malaysia, being a Muslim majority nation, has many Halal offerings while featuring many tourism packages that are compliant with Islamic principles.
"These are the foundation of a successful Islamic Tourism model destination," Nancy said in her keynote address at the inaugural Halal in Travel Global Summit 2021.
Nancy also stated that it was crucial for Malaysia to capitalize on the achievement in order to prepare for the reopening of tourism and the return of Muslim tourists.
